Glamis 02 February 2004 - 8:23 pm Glamis I�ve noticed that some poor unfortunate souls have been directed to chuckies in what must be a vain and frustrating attempt to get to Glamis Castle. Not that I mind, but if you think you're getting one thing and end up with another, it pretty much bites. Like taking a swig of what you think is Coke but ends up being tea? Blech! So I thought I'd give those poor folks something useful at which to look. If you wanna stick around and see what's going on in my poor, pathetic life, feel free to stay. I just wanted to make sure your stop here got you something of use. I picked this name, Glamis, because I just love the castle, its history and Scotland. Yes, I�ve actually been there. In fact, here�s a photo I took. Not one of my better efforts but you couldn�t take inside shots and it was starting to rain when we were there so I had limited time to snap shots. So in an effort to help those folks who thought this was actually about something useful like Glamis Castle in Scotland, here are some of my favorite links for the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. As explanation and disclaimer: I don�t verify the veracity of these sites, I�m just givin� 'em to ya. If a link no longer works, email me and I�ll fix it. I don�t come here every day to check them. I didn�t include sites that had just one line of information (i.e. contact names, addresses, phone numbers). I didn�t include sites that were fiction books about or mentioning Glamis. I did not include any Amazon.com, nor Barnes and Noble, nor any music sites that were included in my searches that listed �Glamis� in the title. I did not include any sites that referenced �Glamis� as a china pattern, fine art print, nor cut glass pattern. I did not include any site that had only a cursory mention of Glamis, as in an online personal hiking or travel journal unless it had significant pictures or story. I did not include any of the travel planning/tour guide sites that included Glamis. I excluded sites that only contained photos unless the photos were significant. I did not include any foreign, non-English sites. After 20 pages of Google searching, I stopped. I did glance at other search engine offerings, but they were mainly duplicates. General Information, History Official Glamis Castle Site - This is the official site as maintained by the current owners of the castle. Some good pics and very good visitor information if you plan on going. Angus Council/Local History/Features/Buildings/Glamis Castle - A little more than just general information, this one page site from Angus Council gives history of the Castle and an old drawing. Illustrated Guide to Places to Visit � Glamis Castle - From a very good reference site for all things Scottish (he also writes a weekly newsletter about Scotland you should really consider reading if you�re at all interested in the area), this article gives a general overview. Scottish Castles Photo Library � Glamis Castle, Angus - Another of the Rampant Scotland sites, which are always good. This one has a little history and a good photo. Check out the one above for more information. The Royal Scotsman Magazine Online - Very nice article and some pictures. Worth a look. Glamis Castle (from The Heritage Trail) - This site gives a nice history. The Secret of Glamis Castle - Interesting site recanting a story about Glamis. Glamis Castle Forfar Angus Tayside Scotland Scottish - Not much text here but very nice aerial view of the castle and a nice map of the grounds. Glamis Castle Photography � Angus Scotland - Photographs only and some nice ones, but they have those darn watermarks on them. Glamis - While this site doesn�t have a vast amount of information, it does have a picture of the inside of the castle, in the Dining Hall. Pictures taken inside are a definite �No! No!� so this person took a real chance. I don�t suggest doing it, but they did and gave a glimpse of the inside to those who can�t get to Schotland to see it.
